You’ll need a commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating to earn your CFI. The CFI (flight instructor) certificate lets you teach private and commercial students. The CFII (instrument instructor) rating adds the ability to teach instrument students and give instrument proficiency checks. We cover the knowledge side of both — including the FOI, FIA, and FII written exams.
